The two most talked-about weddings of 2026 had one thing in common, and no, it wasn't the price tag. While weekend weddings have long been the norm, both Paige Lorenze and Taylor Swift chose to say "I do" on a weekday. Just last week, on July 14, Paige Lorenze, founder and CEO of Dairy Boy, married Tommy Paul at Old Westbury Gardens on Long Island. And despite the lingering misconception that weekday weddings are only for couples on a budget, there's nothing "budget" about a Carolina Herrera gown and a Vogue exclusive.
Just two weeks earlier, on July 3, Taylor Swift married Travis Kelce in an elaborate ceremony at Madison Square Garden — not on a Saturday, but on a Friday. If two of the most talked-about weddings of the year skipped the traditional Saturday celebration, could weekday weddings be the future?

The move away from Saturday ceremonies is not as new as it may seem. Some of history's most celebrated weddings were held midweek — and for centuries, weddings were planned around practical considerations rather than the calendar. In many ways, today's return to weekday celebrations feels less like a new trend and more like a revival of an old one. And naturally, as a 145-year-old venue, we can't help but appreciate a tradition making a comeback.

The assumption that weekday weddings are "budget weddings" isn't always true. In fact, oftentimes they unlock opportunities that simply aren't available on a Saturday. At the 1880 Union, weekday weddings include 50% off the venue fee and accommodations, along with lower to no food and beverage minimums — costs that typically make up around half of a wedding budget.
That flexibility allows couples, especially those planning a more intimate celebration during peak season, to put more of their budget toward the details guests remember most. Instead of simply spending less, many couples choose to spend differently: a signature cocktail hour, live music, abundant florals, or extending the celebration with a welcome dinner or farewell brunch.

Peak season Saturdays have a way of filling up quickly, which is why one of the biggest appeals of a weekday wedding is the extra breathing room it gives you. Instead of choosing from what's left, you have a much better chance of booking the date you actually envisioned.
There is nothing worse than feeling like you had to settle, especially when it comes to your wedding day. At the Union, May, August, September, and October weekday dates are still available while Saturdays are booked through 2027. If the idea of planning your wedding months from now instead of years from now sounds appealing, it may be time to give weekdays a second look.
It's not just the venue that has more availability on weekdays. Your dream team often does too. Photographers, florists, musicians, and other vendors are more likely to have openings midweek, giving you a better chance of booking the people you had your heart set on instead of whoever happens to still be available.
