Preserving History, Creating Memories

The 1880 Union Hotel has stood at the heart of Los Alamos for nearly a century and a half, a living landmark where California’s past and present come together. Built in 1880 as a stagecoach stop, general store, and lodging house, the Union quickly became a cornerstone of this frontier town — later serving as a telegraph station and Wells Fargo office with the arrival of the Pacific Coast Railway in 1882.

Though the original wooden structure was lost to fire in 1893, a new stucco building rose in 1915, continuing its role as a hotel and saloon. In 1972, a craftsman lovingly restored the property, cladding it in aged wood to replicate its original 1880 façade. Further renovations in 2016 modernized the infrastructure — from plumbing and electrical to air conditioning — while preserving the hotel’s authentic character.

Today, the Union Hotel remains a California Registered Historic Landmark and one of Los Alamos’ most iconic treasures. Over the decades, it has not only hosted generations of travelers but also become a backdrop for music videos, celebrity events, and films, featuring legends such as Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, and Jon Bon Jovi.

A  New Chapter

The Union Hotel continues its legacy as both a boutique hotel and a celebrated event venue. With nine uniquely designed guest rooms, including the romantic Bridal Suite and the Governor’s Suite, along with a ballroom, rose garden, gazebo, and historic saloon, the property offers the perfect blend of history and hospitality.

Whether you’re planning a wedding, family celebration, or cultural event, the Union Hotel invites you to step back in time — while creating memories that will last a lifetime.
